Someone recently started to work on a native (as in: not based on Subsonic) android app for . They are looking for feedback and ideas, so feel free to reach out on the corresponding discussion!

Quick reminder that if you manage a pod and are ok with basic stats to be collected, you can submit your pod domain on

It's helpful to have an idea of the size of the network, the number of active users, the deployment of new versions, etc.

By doing so, you'll contribute to those dashboards:

You can opt-out at any time, from your pod settings (older stats will be deleted as well if you do).

You are invited to 's first General Assembly, on May 19th, 6PM (UTC+2). This is a critical milestone to officially launch our collective, and we'd like as much participants as possible!

It's open to anyone, and the meeting itself will be text-based, so book the slot in your calendar, and come join us!

Everything you need to know about the meeting like the agenda, decisions, tools and voting process is available on our forum:

Allright, our new website is now up and running at 🎉 🎉 🎉

It features:

- Cute illustrations drawed by @robin
- Cleaner, mobile-first design
- More accurate and accessible explanations about the project
- A brand new pod selector
- A brand new "Applications" page listing Funkwhale-compatible apps
- Internationalization-ready content, so we can translate the site in many languages!

Many thanks to testers, proof-readers, designers and everyone who helped!

Hello there!

I (@eliotberriot) have been working on the redesign of our website (currently

I'd like to have your feedback regarding this redesign, especially on the content/copy/accessibility/bugs.

The new version lives at

You can share the feedback here or on

Thank you so much for your help, boosts appreciated!

(don't mind the cat images, some illustrations are coming to replace those ;)

If you're an application developper and want to build an app on top on , did you know we maintain an interactive at ?

The most important endpoints are now documented, you can send real requests to our demo server and inspect the responses to have a better understanding of how it works!

You can even use it to interact with your own instance ;)

I've added/updated some chunks of the API documentation at

We still miss docs for a lot of endpoints, but it should at least help you to get started and start hacking :)

As shown on the videos below you can use this interactive documentation to quickly grasp how the API is structured, send real requests to the demo instance or your own instance, and get real responses from the server.

Let me introduce the brand new Network page!

It's a magical place where you can:

- Browse data about the network
- Submit your instance for inclusion in the statistics

Collected data is made available at More dashboards will come in the future, but you can already have an idea of the number of instances, active users, and the growth!

If you own an instance, simply visit to have it included :)

I'm going to highlight some of the changes in the release in a thread.

First of all, Naomi includes three new exciting features:

- Storing displaying licensing information about uploaded tracks
- Embedding tracks and albums on third party websites via an iframe (and oembed)
- Transcoding of audio files to support a wider range of browsers and clients
- Instance-level controls to understand and change the way your instance federates with other instances and accounts

Dear translators,

I just freezed translation strings for the 0.18 and pushed them to our weblate instance. I've also enabled three new languages (Esperanto, Russian and Galician) since those were either completely or almost completely translated.

There are alot of new strings, and you'll have at least a full week (but possibly more, since we're aiming for a release during the month) to translate new content.

Thank you so much for your involvement!

You can now albums and individual tracks from into third party website (as long as you can insert an iframe into them and the embedded content is available publicly), as shown in the video below \o/

Wow, the week has been pretty interesting working on

The whole thing is now stable enough to start being used actively. Visit to know everything about this project.

Ok, it's time shape Funkwhale's future, in terms of moderation and anti-abuse tools!

We can and will reuse tools from existing projects, but there are also things we'll have to work out ourselves.

If you want to be a part of that, the whole discussion will take place here:
(you can answer this post as well but please read the issue before!)

Take the time you need to read / contribute. the issue will remain for at least a few weeks before any implementation happens.

Dear Mopidy users, may I suggest you have a look at this brand new Mopidy extension?

Basically, you can install it on your Mopidy server, and you'll be able to stream music available in your Funkwhale instance straight from Mopidy!

It's still pretty young (the baby is 5 hours old), so feedback is welcome!

Pipeline is green, review is over, code is clean, documentation is written: the next release will include LDAP support, meaning you will be able to connect your Funkwhale instance to a LDAP directory for authentication purposes, removing the need for users to create yet another account.

Kudos to @joshuaboniface for the hard work on this (and for the first contribution)!

0.16.1 is out. As you may guess, it's a minor , focusing more on bugfixes and stability than on new features.

However, this one still introduce a cool new thing: theming! That's right, instance owners can now use the full power of CSS to customize their instances. If you're interested, have a look at the documentation:

As usual, the full changelog is available here:

Happy upgrade!
