I agree with you when you say Clinton and Trump are not the same. I don't think Macron and Le Pen are the same, at all.
For the sake of simplicity, I'll call politicians such as Le Pen or Trump "them" from now on.
Back in 2002, 15 years ago, we had the eaxt same choice. It was Jacques Chirac vs. them and, at that time, we voted for Jacques Chirac, hoping it will make them go away. It was understandable then: the situation was a first of its kind.
