Long, goodbye, neg topics
One of the reasons I posted that is I'm barely able to keep up with what's going in your lives. I wanted you to know that, and why.
I used to be more supportive, more present, more helpful here. I know it wasn't much anyway, but I tried to give a little. Emotional or financial support for instance. Or at least interact with people around me, show them they were read and valued.
I don't seem to be able to do that anymore. I don't engage in meaningful discussions. I don't say hi in the morning, or good night before going to bed. I'm not sending kind words to friends who are really having a hard time.
These days, the only reason I'm coming back here is to reduce anxiety. By reading all the interesting stuff you write and share (which I don't do), view your nudes or pictures (which I don't take or publish), or enjoying your tokens of affection and support (which I don't send back to you).
I'm not feeling guilty about this. Just sad. I mostly know why I don't do this anymore.
It's a matter of (broken) balance, and I'm slowly coming to terms with the truth: I don't think I'll ever be able to find this balance.
Sometimes it will look like I did, for a very short time. Then it'll break under the load, spectacularly.
Over the pas decade, I had dozens of breakdowns like this. I'll have dozens, hundreds more. I have to accept this handicap. This is the first time I actually use this word to describe what I experience.
I don't know where it comes from, or what it is. It's here anyway, there is a pattern and I cannot find a way around it, so I have to deal with it.
I love you, truly. What you gave me over the past three years, it's indescriptible.
I wish I could be more present, but, more likely, you will hear me less, if at all. I still plan to come here for the time being, mainly to lurk, and for work-related discussions.
You're welcome to reach out to me directly by email at email@example.com or through Matrix: Eliot:matrix.org
Maybe I'll be better someday and able to be more present here.
Goodbye, I love you all
Tempo, a mood tracker / personal log
I've had this in the back of my mind for quite some time. I was never satisfied with Dailyo and other popular mood tracking solutions, because I usually want something more flexible than "I'm happy" or "I'm sad".
Something that can be a mood tracker, but also a personal log, where I can express myself.
So I've hacked #Tempo this weekend for my personal use, but maybe it could be useful for other people as well?
You can give it a try at https://mood.eliotberriot.com/
(have a look at https://mood.eliotberriot.com/#/about for more information about how it works, but
everything happens client side, the data never leaves your browser)
In mood for a guitar stream today, if you want to join me (starting an 5 minutes) 🎶 🎸
Recommended block, Funkwhale.it
It came to our attention recently that the account @\firstname.lastname@example.org was spreading misinformation about the project, and our funding in particular. They've also published hostile posts concerning some members of our collective.
This happens after we reached out to them multiple times in february to ask them to respect the guidelines we put in place for reusing our assets (https://funkwhale.audio/en_US/logos), and after they setup multiple social media pages by simply copy-pasting content from our website, which could be seen as a way to impersonate us, or at least to create confusion.
As a result, we have decided to block them, as well as the Funkwhale pod funkwhale.it they manage, from all our spaces and the pods we host.
Funkwhale.it is not affiliated with our project or collective, in any way.

Funkwhale, dev, podcasts, current status
I'm going to take this opportunity to do a quick status update on this feature. You can see my up-to-date checklist at https://pad.funkwhale.audio/podcasts-channels-task-force?view#Technical-implementation--roadmap and the meta ticket with all related merge requests at https://dev.funkwhale.audio/funkwhale/funkwhale/-/issues/170.
Almost all the remaining work is UI polishing and tweaking/testing federation. The only exceptions are :
- OPML import/export, but I don't think I'll be able to tackle this before release, so it will be postponed
- Redesign of the Album/Serie page, which is rather outdated and not well-adapted for non musical content.
- Implement a page to list recent publications of channels you're subscribing to
But in their current state, I consider channels are usable and stable enough to be used, both for publication and subscription.
So, we're almost there!
Funkwhale, dev, podcasts, moderation
Pfiou, another important step completed today. I've been mostly focused on user-level features, but since channels / podcasts potentially introduce new ways for abuse, it's important to take this into account before the actual release.
In particular, it's important that:
- users can report channels (and that these reports federate, when applicable)
- admins/mods can browse channels, delete them or specific bits of content
- admins/mods can act upon reported channels
All of this is implemented at https://dev.funkwhale.audio/funkwhale/funkwhale/-/merge_requests/1072 and will ship with the april release.
Je vois passer le toot de @lucie et du coup c'est l'occasion parfaite de faire ça :

Part Two of Art History, Science And The Formation Of Blackness Within The White Gaze by @ArtistMarciaX
For those of you that read Part One of "Art History, Science and The Formation of Blackness Within the White Gaze", part deux is now published!!!
thanks to @GinnyMcQueen for giving me the platform!
Check it out and the rest of the blog at:
Funkwhale, dev, podcasts, federation
Another milestone today: #funkwhale channels can now successfully federate with other Funkwhale pods
Here again, sounds like an obvious feature, but up until now, my efforts were focused on federation with other platforms like Mastodon or Friendica.
While federation with other non-Funkwhale software is pretty basic (typically, the Audio activity is converted to a Note with a link to the Funkwhale page), federation with other Funkwhale pods is much deeper!
More information is federated, like the track duration, size, bitrate, the album/podcast serie if any, the track license, etc.
Also, it's not limited to Funkwhale but this merge request also ensure deletion of tracks, albums and channels is broadcasted over the federation, and handled properly when received by Funkwhale.
You can expect this to work when their 2019-03 release is out!
